Dream Map: Meet the Artists - Lucy Smyth

As our Dream Map Project* unfolds, I will be featuring artists taking part in this collaborative piece of art. Today we hear from Lucy Smyth, whose Dream is called " Sprinting on water / My Enchanted Boots," made with calico, embroidery thread, watercolour paint. Lucy Says, "In my dream, I wore enchanted boots and ran across a shining body of water, faster and faster, the landscape strange and beautiful. As the shore drew near, I realised I hadn’t learned how to stop — and yet, somehow, I did, with grace. This dream arrived when movement felt difficult in waking life. I woke with joy in my limbs. Stitching this piece has let me revisit that feeling, a gift I carry with me.   I am an Irish-born multidisciplinary artist and illustrator based in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, Victoria. Working across textiles, painting, illustration, and digital media, my practice is rooted in a deep appreciation for nature, pattern, history, and mythology. I create work that weaves ...
